Areas of Expertise: Accident/incident investigation with a focus on human error, OSHA compliance audits/corrective action, safety culture assessment/improvement, EHS management systems, advanced statistics and data analysis.
Education/Certifications: M.A. in Community/Clinical Psychology, Norfolk State University, and B.A. in Psychology, University of Arizona – Tucson; HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certified.
Will is an EHS Consultant and Data Science Specialist with over five years of direct experience in the EHS arena. He has developed expertise on the comprehensive assessment of practices, processes, systems, and culture related to safety. He has sound knowledge in safety assessment that can be adapted and targeted to the needs of a particular client.
Will also plays a crucial role in KTL’s data analysis services. With a background in statistics, he uses a variety of tools and strategies to glean usable information from client data. Will also specializes in creating predictive models for EHS applications.
Some of Will’s project highlights include the following:
- Conducting a Safety Management System (SMS) gap analysis based on ISO 45001 for major utility company.
- Creating a predictive wildfire index for Class I railroad to identify high-risk areas for targeted mitigation.
- Creating a predictive track-caused derailment model for Class I railroad to identify where broken rails were likely to occur and why.
- Conducting Clean Air Act General Duty Clause and Risk Management Plan compliance audits at approximately thirty facilities for large chemical distribution company.
Will has taught continuing education classes in human error and accident/incident investigation through Texas A&M University. He has presented papers at the annual meetings of American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), Rail-Tec, and Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center at Texas A&M University. The topics of these papers have included:
- Incorporating human factors into accident/incident investigation.
- Using leading indicator data to construct predictive accident models.
Beyond his client work, Will also supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of KTL’s internal Quality Management System (QMS) through Microsoft SharePoint. He leads the implementation of KTL’s corrective and preventive action program related to QMS audit findings. In addition, he manages the delivery of the employee training program (KTL University). This includes providing training, administering quizzes, and tracking employee training.
Will brings a unique perspective to projects, with an educational and work background in psychology, management, and statistics. Prior to joining KTL, he taught behavioral statistics at Norfolk State University. Will is HAZWOPER 40-hour certified. He has is Master’s degree in Community/Clinical Psychology from Norfolk State University, and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona – Tucson.
